Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)

Director:    Tim Hill

Producers: Janice Karman, Ross Bagdasarian Jr.

Starring:   Matthew Gray Gubler (Simon) Jason Lee (Dave), Justin Long                  (Alvin), Jesse McCartney (Theodore), David Cross (Ian)

Based on the TV show created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr., Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007) is a musically fun CGI-live action remake of the timeless TV show.

The movie starts with Alvin, Simon and Theodore stuffing acorns in their home tree. Then, when the hole on the tree reaches its maximum extent, Alvin, while stuffing another acorn, falls into the hole and all the acorns fall out. After a while, Alvin falls out and gets stuck in the tree. At the next second, the tree is chopped down for transplant to a tree farm. Meanwhile, an amateur songwriter named David ‘Dave’ Seville is presenting his latest single to a record producer and former college roommate named Ian Hawke.

Hawke then replied that no one will record it because he thinks it is so pathetic. The tree is then bought to the JETT records building. Then when Dave is leaving, the chipmunk trio hold on to Dave from a cupcake basket Dave snatched from one of Ian’s co-workers. At Dave’s place, in search of food, Alvin manages to find Cheese balls, fills them into a bowl and ... cannonballs into it. When Dave finds out and hears them for the first time, he faints.

After regaining consciousness, he kicks the chipmunks out of the house. After discovering their singing talents (through ‘Only You (and you alone)’), Dave agrees to let them in only if they sing the songs that Dave writes. After Ian identifies their singing prowess, the chipmunk trio is first pampered and then took away by ‘Uncle Ian’. But Ian overworks them to such an extent that they lose their voice at the most crucial moment- their worldwide tour kickoff at Los Angeles. If you want to know more about the chipmunks’ antics, watch the movie!

I like there is a lot of humour in the movie. Alvin’s hyperactivity was the best. There was craziness everywhere! The sugar rush that the chipmunks get after drinking chocolate cold coffee is hilarious. The songs were amazing, especially ‘Witch Doctor’. Ooh Eeh, Ooh Aah Aah, ting tang walla walla Bing bang...hat was brilliant.  The ‘Uncle Ian’ parts were very nice and they bring out the sliminess of the character.  Alvin’s goofiness was extraordinary.  It perfectly blended into his seamless universe.  Simon’s smartness wasn’t really ‘smartness’.  Theodore’s innocence was good enough for a youngest sibling who hasn’t even lost his baby fat.

I wholeheartedly recommend this movie because:

1.       It is very, very funny.

2.      If you are a music enthusiast and like watching musicals, this is the one for       you. It focuses on a singing chipmunk trio.

3.     Also for Alvin TV fans. If you liked the 60’s show (The Alvin Show), the 80’s   show (Alvin and the Chipmunks) or the 2015 show (ALVINNN! and the       Chipmunks), you will definitely love the movie series.

4.       It has many human-home related goof-ups, which are funny.

5.       The vengefulness that Dave feels is portrayed well.
