Aladdin (2019) Director: Guy Ritchie Producers: Jonathan Eirich, Ivan Atkinson, Dan Lin, Kevin De La Noy. Cast: Men Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine), Will Smith (Genie), Marwan Kenzari (Jafar) Simply awesome. Mind-blowing. Amazing. I haven’t watched the 1992 version, so I can’t judge better or not. Read the review now. A mariner starts to tell his two children a story about a boy named Aladdin, in ancient Persia. Aladdin is a young boy who lost both his parents when he was a baby, with his sole friend being a monkey named Abu. Once he sees a girl who robs two pieces of bread for a pair of kids to eat. The shopkeeper notices and sends the bodyguards to chase down the girl and Aladdin (who just steals the girl’s bracelet.). Aladdin, with the help of the girl, jumps and runs his way to his hideout in an under construction building which was abandoned a long time ago. At his house, Aladdin correctly identifies that the girl from the palace. Later, the sul...

Mary Poppins (1964)

Image
Director: Robert Stevenson Producer: Walt Disney Cast: Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins) Dick Van Dyke (Bert) Karen Dotrice (Jane Banks) Matthew Garber (Michael Banks). Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Ello, gov’nor! That’s the only word I have to describe this movie. Get on to the review. We get introduced to a street performer named Bert, who also serves as our narrator. Bert explains that this is London in 1910, and a former British Navy officer named Admiral Boom, who accurately gets time correct and Greenwich relies on him for time. Boom also fires a firework every day exactly at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. At 17 Cherry Tree Lane, we see that a wealthy banker named Mr Banks has two rambunctious children, who go missing as usual and later return, with their kite that had gone missing. Their nanny quits because it was the fourth time the kids went missing in the week and their mother Winifred, an infamous suffragette, goes off to protest. Later that night, Mr and Mrs. Banks ...

Director: Robert Wise Producers: Robert Wise, Peter Levathes, Saul Chaplin Cast: Julie Andrews (Maria von Trapp) Christopher Plummer (Georg von Trapp), Eleanor Parker (The Baroness). A really happy movie. I really think that this is the best. Go to the review. Maria is a free-spirited young woman who is training to become a nun at an abbey in Salzburg, Austria. One day, her lack of discipline finally gets the better of her and it reaches a point where nobody wants her there except for the Mother Abbess. She decides that Marie should live outside the abbey and sends her as a governess for the seven children of naval officer Captain Georg von Trapp. The Captain insists on strict military discipline, of which Maria does not approve. Although the children misbehave at first, Maria responds with kindness and patience and gets all the children to love her as a friend. The next day the Captain leaves for Vienna to visit Baroness Elsa Schraeder and ‘Uncle’ Max Detweiler. With that, Mar...

Descendants (2015)

Image
Director: Kenny Ortega Producer: Tracey Jeffery Cast: Dove Cameron (Mal), Cameron Boyce (Carlos De Vil), Booboo Stewart (Jay), Sofia Carson (Evie).   A perfect Disney Channel TV movie (and the second I am writing for, after Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the Second Dimension ), Descendants is a great movie! The movie starts with an opening explanation of The USA (United States of Auradon), The Isle of the Lost, and the villains.   King Beast and Queen Belle’s son, Prince Benjamin decides to takes the children of Maleficent, Jafar, Cruella De Vil, and The Evil Queen, to prep school on Auradon. The King denies but Ben says that they will be fine. Meanwhile, a different story is in full swing on the Isle of the Lost.   The said teens Mal, Jay, Carlos and Evie are hanging out on the street, singing a song about evilness (‘Rotten to The Core’). After the foursome and their parents get the news, Maleficent goes crazy, wanting the Fairy Godmother’s wand. All the...

Anderson Starring: Anthony Gonzalez (Miguel), Gael Garcia Bernal (Hector), Benjamin Bratt (Ernesto de la Cruz), Alanna Ubach (Imelda) The first Pixar film with an all- Latino cast, Coco (2017) is an adventure with (dead) family. The movie opens with a boy named Miguel explaining his passion for music, the ancestral ban on music in his family and his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz.   Then the movie moves on and shows Elena Rivera (Miguel’s grandmother) trying to prevent Miguel or anyone else from playing music. When Miguel is shining shoes (Miguel shines shoes rather than make shoes) at the Plaza de la Cruz, a musician was also getting his shoes shined by Miguel and noticed the shoe-shiner’s passion for music. Later, when Elena finds out about the music stuff, she destroyed Miguel’s makeshift guitar. The same day, when Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) starts formally, Miguel entered Ernesto de la Cruz’s mausoleum, ta...
