Mr. Peabody and Sherman (2014)

Director: Rob Minkoff

Producers: Denise Nolan-Cascino, Alexandra Schwartz.

Starring: Ty Burrell (Mr. Peabody), Max Charles (Sherman), Ariel Winter (Penny Peterson).

Mr. Peabody and Sherman which is the first DreamWorks Animation film I am reviewing is a great time-travel adventure.

The movie starts with an opening narration by Mr. Peabody about himself and his adoptive son, Sherman. They explain about the Wavelength Acceleration Bidirectional Asynchronous Controller (WABAC) machine, saying that it is a time machine. It is also Sherman’s first day of school. Sherman gets into a fight with a girl named Penny Peterson, and Sherman bites Penny. Mr. Peabody invites Penny’s parents, Patty and Paul Peterson to set scores. With Sherman and Penny, when Penny asks him about how he was answering every question in class, Sherman accidentally tells Penny about the WABAC, (even though Mr. Peabody had warned Sherman not to tell Penny or the middle would be grounded) and forces Sherman to take her back in time. The duo, along with Mr. Peabody, go on an adventure of a lifetime and they like it, even though they disturb the space-time continuum. The adventure ends with a super showdown. Want to know more? Watch the movie!

I like that the movie is centred on a dog (yes, Mr. Peabody is a dog, and if you were wondering, Sherman is a human). I also like the theme. The quotes are great! One is:

Baby Sherman: Dada!

Mr. Peabody: No Sherman, you will call me Mr. Peabody. Or in other times, just Peabody.

Baby Sherman: Meeba Peababa?

Mr. Peabody: That's right Sherman, Mr. Peababa.

See? There are other quotes which are even better. King Tutankhamun’s role in the movie was nice. However, they mistook the name of King Tut’s wife. In the movie it said Hatshepsut. It was actually Ankhesenamun. There was a description error for the movie. It said that Mr. Peabody and Sherman go to fix a time rift that they caused. The time rift was actually caused by (spoiler alert) Penny. The movie has these flaws:

  •         The animation wasn’t so good, but it was above average.
  •         Sherman doesn’t evolve in the movie.

I wholeheartedly recommend this movie because:

1.       The plot was amazing.

2.       The screenplay was great. Hats off to anyone who did that.

3.       It was based on TV SEGMENTS rather than a bona fide TV Show.

4.       I think that anyone who likes sci-fi is going to like this film.

5.       Overall, THE MOVIE IS AMAZING!
