Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010)
Director: Thor Freudenthal
Producers: Nina Jacobson,
Bradford Simpson
Starring: Zachary Gordon (Gregory
‘Greg’ Heffley), Robert Capron (Rowley Jefferson), Devon Bostick
(Rodrick Heffley), Connor and Owen Fielding (Manny Heffley), Rachel Harris
(Susan Heffley), Steve Zahn (Frank Heffley).
Based on the first book of the hit
book series by Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a must watch
laugh-riot!
The movie starts with Greg giving
this narration:
“First,
let me get something straight: This is a JOURNAL, not a diary. I know what it
says on the cover, but when Mom went out to buy this thing, I SPECIFICALLY told
her to get one that didn't say "diary" on it. Great. All I need is
for some jerk to catch me carrying this book around and get the wrong idea.”
Greg also explains his dream about eventually
becoming hugely successful later in life. It is also his first day of middle school.
On the first day itself Greg realises the downsides of the school such as the
missing stall doors in the boys’ bathroom and the seats in the cafeteria. He
also runs into his archenemy from kindergarten, Patty Farrell. He also says
that his friendship with one of his friends named Rowley is strained because
that Rowley is as old as Greg but behaves eight years younger. One day Greg
learns from Chirag Gupta the story of the cheese, a mouldy piece of cheese
lying on the corner of the basketball court. I’m not going to tell you anything
more, ‘because you’ll have to watch it in the movie (or better, read the book).
I like that this movie is a direct
adaptation of the fantastic book. The actor choice was great. Devon Bostick’s
look was perfect, and he seemed like a 16-year-old weirdo. The magazine
scenario was a good inclusion but wasn’t in the original book. It appeared
later in the series. Colin’s role was nice. Hundreds of once-licked ice-creams,
eh? The reason I liked the movie a lot is because I read the movie diary and
the book earlier. So, I knew the original thing and the production. I am also
begging you to make a movie on The Getaway or Wrecking Ball. No flaws… Wimpy
Kid team, keep it up!
I wholeheartedly recommend this movie because:
- It has a
beautiful representation of the original story.
- It has a
nice depiction of friendship.
- It has a
nice plot.
- It has
good acting.
- Overall,
THIS MOVIE IS SUPER RAD!
