Ole Aale (2024)

Ole Ale (2024)

Oh my god, this movie is really a ride.

Omkar Lele, or Ole, is a widower and single father who’s main aim is to live life at its fullest. Contrastingly, his son Aditya Lele, or Aale, is an extreme workaholic, constantly having calls, conferences, meetings, presentations, and having very little, if any time for himself and his family. How much ever Ole tries to get Aale to do anything, he never manages to do anything with him.

One time, after Aale fails to appear for a dinner at home, Ole, in sadness, apparently flees the house. Confused, Aale and their house helper, Baburao, rush to the police station and ask everybody about Ole’s whereabouts. Turns out, Ole was always at home, simply hiding. It was all a ploy to get Aale to stay at home and cancel his meeting in Delhi.

During that period, while Aale is exercising, he randomly falls off the treadmill, unconscious. Later, he is kept for 24 hours under observation at the hospital, Aale and Ole both undergo tests, of which the result is that Aale is perfectly fine, while Ole has Pontine Glioma, a terminal brain tumor, that too in its advanced stage. It is uncertain how long Ole will survive, maybe 2 days, or 2 decades? Ole wishes to visit Rishikesh and the holy Ganga river before his death, and Aale reluctantly agrees. At Rishikesh, Ole somehow manages to rent an open jeep to Chopta, and Aale, gobsmacked, agrees to drive the jeep. On the way, they come across Kyra, or ‘Kahi’, a trekker separated from her group. Aale, again, reluctantly agrees to let her on. Want to know more? Watch the movie!

Firstly, happy new year! Never before in my life have I ever seen a movie that shifts so uncannily and quickly from serious and silly. One moment there’s whimsical comedy and satire, and the next moment there’s jarring tragedy. As always, Nana Patekar’s acting is top-notch! Cool, so this was a movie with a bit too many twists. Not like it’s bad or anything, there’s just a lot. So, the thing about Aale being an extreme workaholic to the extent that not having social media at all, feels wrong. Business owners need to have at least some presence on social media in order to promote it, and so even if he may not use it, Aale would have to be on it. This movie otherwise has no apparent flaws, except perhaps the obligatory ‘get drunk and do stupid out-of-character things’ part.

I wholeheartedly recommend this movie:

1.      This has great acting, both out- and in-universe (hehe)

2.      Comedy. Oh god, the comedy.

3.      Even with all the plot twists and subversions, it still manages to deliver a great message.

4.      The subtle hints that everything’s not exactly serendipity are great.

5.      Overall, THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING!
